The Somatic Insights Classes are emergent in nature. The energy of the Season informs the core of the somatic exploration. However, the classes aren't designed far in advance. What your instructor witnesses in one class plants the seed for the next. The insights, experiences, and curiosities you share between classes nourish the soil and feed the seed.
Your instructor will explore the many somatic connections and weave together an embodied exploration grounded in the Feldenkrais Method and nurtured by the community. In this way, these Somatic Insights classes thread from everyone who participated — they are an evolving, living form.
But they have a structure!
- ORIENT: We'll begin by walking and orienting to the theme or function we're exploring and how it relates to the energy of the Season.
- SOUND: We'll open by engaging with the familiar sound of 'MMM.' You'll gently put your lips together and hum. This simple practice can shift your breathing, increase nitric oxide, and calm your nervous system.
- MOVE: We'll explore a somatic movement practice rooted in the Feldenkrais Method and designed to clarify and connect with a habit of moving, thinking, sensing, and feeling.
- SOUND: We'll transition back to sitting and sounding. You'll explore an open-mouthed 'Ahhhh' sound to soften your jaw and allow the energy to move in and through your throat. This simple yet potent practice can unravel unconscious holding in the throat, neck, and jaw region.
- BE MOVED: With the aliveness of sound, you'll turn inward and cultivate your capacity to sense the flow in your body. It's the inner art of listening, allowing, and following.
- JOURNAL: Now is a prime time to tap into the potency of your biology and the power of neuroplasticity (rewiring your brain). We'll save some time for you to journal. Often, people use this time to allow stream-of-consciousness journaling to reveal the preconscious. However, explore a conscious rewrite to help decouple an emotion or belief around a particular topic or situation.
