WHAT TO EXPECT IN A SESSION
Clinical Somatics Exercises are a series of movements suitable for all ages and physical abilities
- After a postural assessment and discussions about your lifestyle habits and needs for the session we start the practice.
- Exercises are done on a floor, exercise mat, or rehab table.
- Exercises are performed extremely slowly, with precision—and require 100% mental focus. Clinical Somatic exercises are pandiculations that involve consciously contracting muscle groups followed by a slow release.
- Often during the exercises a muscle will spasm or shake or feel jerky— and this is good! Sometimes post session there is an emotional release, feelings of exhaustion, or a sense of profound relaxation.
- Breath techniques encourage nervous system regulation and teach the client how to breathe and move simultaneously.
- Next to no visual demonstration by the Somatic Educator is fundamental to ensuring clients can independently execute exercises.
- Exercises are performed with eyes closed to limit sensory information the brain takes in—in order to focus completely on sensory feedback from your muscles.
